Thing Two: Face of Your Classroom
This Thing was all about creating an online presence. I already had this website built before completing the 21 Things modules. This website is still under construction. I will be making a new classroom website when I have a teaching job. However, clicking the links above will show many different examples of my work. I also have a personal online presence with a travel blog. The travel blog is also currently under construction. Read below to find out more.
About Page
In EDC 160 (Children's Literature) I created this website as a space to practice different things, provide examples of work that I've completed, and have an online presence. A screenshot of my about page (for this website) is provided to the side. I will be updating my about page periodically as I change and grow as an educator. A screenshot for my travel blog is below (feel free to read about my travels to Rwanda, Uganda, and Ghana in 2017!)
In the future, I will have an about page on my classroom website so that students and parents can contact me, and learn more about who I am as a teacher and as a person. |
Class Information (Modified)
Rather than create a pretend classroom information page, I have a completed mock childcare center. The screenshot to the side illustrates the about page of the childcare center. By clicking the child-care center tab above, you can look at all of the pages including policies, procedures, and the full about page.
In the future, I would create a classroom information page that would have information about the class, updates (such as when homework assignments are due), and contact information. |
Resources & Homework (Modified)
The 'classes' tab above is full of information from Children's Literature and Mathematics. The screenshot to the side highlights on example of an online resource for students to use: a virtual illustrated dictionary. This artifact was created for EDC 262, as a mathematics resource.
In the future, this can easily be copied to provide resources for all sorts of things. In the various tabs above you will find resources for book recommendations and websites for parents (under child-care tab), for example. Providing resources for students is an important part of maintaining a modern, technologically effective classroom. |
Reflection
Having an online presence in the modern age is huge! I loved creating my travel blog this summer as a means of sharing information, reflecting on my experiences, and saving memories. Using pictures and even videos helps others to connect to my experiences, and helps me to organize my thoughts. I definitely intend to have a classroom website, even for early childhood, so that parents and students have a place to access resources (such as useful websites, homework help, and step-by-step instructions), and contact me when needed.
