Thing Seven: Productivity
This Thing was all about making teacher life easier. Teachers are very busy individuals, and being organized and focus is key. To accomplish this, extensive planning is often required! Below you will find things that help educators with their productivity (from shortening urls to converting files for sharing!)
Converting a URLI personally LOVE using Go Noodle in the classroom! However, sharing blog post urls can get messy. By using a url shortener, I was able to take this original url to a blog post I love: http://blog.gonoodle.com/2017/10/turn-bones-bones-bones-into-an-october-lesson/ and condense it into something nice and short like this: goo.gl/QYGVEA. I chose to use the google url shortening service!

Online Calendars
Staying organized is absolutely essential! I love using planners and calendars to map out deadlines, events, school closings, appointments, meetings, and more. This can be a great resource for the classroom, as a shareable online calendar would allow students and parents to see what events are going on in the classroom, be reminded about special days, homework assignments, tests, field trips, and school closings! I could also add on things such as "unavailable due to a meeting" and "open time slots" so that parents, colleagues, or students could schedule meetings with me online. (To the side is a screenshot of a sample calendar!)
It's also super easy to use, and I can add events directly from email! |
Converting Files
Another useful productivity tool is called Zamzar. This website allows users to upload files and convert them to new styles. For example, a word document can be uploaded and turned into an Adobe Acrobat PDF file, which can then be shared via email with others and it preserves the document. I used Zamzar to upload a sample of my philosophy of education, and converted it to a PDF file! It just took 3 steps and about 30 seconds to do, wow!
