Thing Eight: Digital Citizenship
This Thing was all about how to be a good citizen on the internet! Unfortunately, with modern technology comes modern issues. Bullying that used to take place offline, now happens online. People overshare information, post personal information that can be stolen, and succumb to identity theft and hacking. With technology being such a crucial part of daily life for many individuals, it's increasingly important for students, parents, and educators to be aware of how to properly conduct themselves online. Below are some resources I found for one of 9 Themes of Digital Citizenship. For all 9 themes, please see the 21 things website here!
Digital Health & Wellness: physical & psychological well-being in a digital technology world
Technology is a great tool, but keeping yourself safe, happy, and healthy is still important. Below are some resources that you can use to make this happen:
7 Cups of Tea: This is an online resource that gives people someone to talk to. Chat with licensed therapists, or with friends, and work through modules that help with everything from anxiety and depression to bullying and stress management!
The Quiet Place: An online space to listen to relaxing music, and take a break from the bombardment of messages, notifications, emails, and more. It's great for de-stressing.
The Thoughts Room: A place for anonymous venting (rather than yelling at people or arguing on Facebook and Twitter) that serves as a very cathartic place to get out anger and frustration by watching your thoughts quite literally break away and leave.
Here are some great websites for helping children stay safe online, remember to monitor children when they use the internet, and show them these websites to help them learn what is and is not acceptable to keeping them emotionally and physically safe and well online!
Safety Net UK: A great child-friendly web source, with advice for parents.
NSPCC: An online source for parents about how to talk about and keep kids safe online.
Healthy Kids: An online source with videos, and activities all about kids health online and offline (for parents, kids, and teens!)
THIS WILL BE UPDATED PERIODICALLY. THANK YOU! :)
