GENERAL DISCIPLINE POLICY
Although we strive for a happy and cheerful environment at Little Hands, we know that there are occasional needs for discipline.
Staff members are trained on how to handle various discipline issues including: hitting, temper tantrums, and throwing toys. These issues will be handled in a way that ensures learning occurs. Teachers will have a conversation with children to work through their emotions, and come to a desired outcome. Teachers will model healthy emotions and problem-solving, and will work to ensure children are beginning to learn these necessary life skills.
It is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure safety.

BITING & INJURY POLICY
If situations arise that result in injury (including biting, scratching, and hitting), then the teacher will first ensure the safety of the children, and then proceed to assess and respond to the situation.
Biting is a normal childhood activity, for more resources on why biting occurs and what can be done about it, please see our parent resources page. If biting or other injury does occur, a report will be filed with the office and parents will be notified. If biting or other related activities continue, teachers and parents will work together to ensure understanding and create a plan to stop this behavior. If after three times a child continues to bite or engage in other violent activities, your child may be removed from Little Hands childcare to ensure the safety of other children. These incidents will be discussed with parents, and we fully believe that the problem can be solved before it reaches this point.
